Early adopters of the recently launched Galaxy Note 10.1 in India was treated with a Jelly bean OTA update late last week and our source was kind enough to share the official ROM so we can get a taste of the buttery OS on our device.
Applying the update requires a bit of OS flashing know-how so if you’re not comfortable tinkering with your device’s OS, you’re better off waiting for the OTA update. However, should you wish to be one of the first in the country to have Android 4.1.1 on your Note 10.1, here’s a guide on how you can do it.
Here are the things you need to do/have before doing the hack.
1. Back-up your important files. You can use any backup options you want.
2. Fully charge your tablet.
3. Turn off any antivirus or firewall on your PC.
4. Close Samsung Kies.
5. Make sure that you have all the USB drivers installed on your PC.
Once everything is all set, you can proceed with the OS flashing.
1. Download ODIN here. This is going to be your tool to apply the files you’ve downloaded.
2. Download the Indian version of the official stock ICS ROM here. (You need to register to download)
3. Download the Jelly bean update here.
4. Copy the update on your device’s external storage.
5. Boot you tablet to Download mode (Power + Volume Down)
6. Open ODIN, click on PDA and navigate to the folder where you saved the ICS ROM that you downloaded.
7. Make sure that the Re-partition, pit, CSC and Phone is unchecked before you proceed.
8. Connect your device to your PC and click on start on ODIN. Let it take its course. Once everything is done, your device will reboot and you’ll see the box the upper left most box in ODIN turn green with a word PASS!
9. Once everything’s done, disconnect your tablet from your PC and boot to Recovery mode (Power + Volume Up).
10. In Recovery, select Apply Update from External Storage, navigate to the update that you copied to your phone and apply it.
11. After applying the update, Select “Wipe Data/Factory Restore†and let it do its thing.
12. Reboot your device and you should have Android 4.1.1 installed on your tablet.
As always, we don’t recommend messing with your device’s OS and we’ll not take responsibility for any damage that this tutorial may induce to your gadget. If you don’t feel comfortable with these step, you’re better off waiting for the official update, which we assume is just around the corner.
